Mrs. Powdrell is the UNIVERSITY INTERSCHOLASTIC LEAGUE SPONSOR EXCELLENCE AWARD WINNER
for 2008. Mrs. Powdrell was also the Founder's Award Winner 2008 for Texas Educational Theatre
Association.
Recently Mrs. Powdrell has directed at Texas A&M University Theatre Camp on the Coast in 2007,
2008 and will direct in the Summer of 2009.
Mrs. Powdrell has over 30 years experience as an actress, singer,
director and teacher. Mrs. Powdrell graduated with a Bachelor of
Science from the College of Educaton and Theatre from the University of
Houston. Recently Pod studied Teaching Shakespeare Through Performance at London's Globe
Theatre after winning a fellowship from the Houston Branch of the English Speaking Union. Mrs.
Powdrell
has directed numerous UIL One Act Plays, full length plays, musicals,
improvisation shows and community theatre productins. Mrs. Powdrell
serves on the Advocacy Committee for The Texas Educational Theatre
Association. She is a member TETA, Alpa Pi Omega, The International
Thespian Society, National Organization for Teaching Tolerance, FHS
Site Based Committee, Texas Coalition for Quality Arts Education and
T.S.T.A. Most recently Mrs. Powdrell received the Lillian B. Rhoades
Texas Excellence Award as an outstanding High School Teacher. Mrs.
Powdrell also teaches for The University of Texas, where she has taught
acting for non-majors each summer and serves as the associate
director of The Summer Theatre Workshop conservatory. While at UT,
Mrs. Powdrell directed for the Summer Theatre Workshop and the Texas
Young Playwrights. Mrs. Powdrell is a mentor teacher for TETA and has
taught workshops for TETA, UIL SUPERCONFERENCES and the Short
Term Summer Theatre Workshops at UT for High School Teachers.
Mrs. Powdrell lives in Friendswood where she and her husband have
raised their four children.
To instill "how you work on stage is how you will work in real life."To develop self confidence and
sensory and emotiional awareness
through the use of movement, vocal expression, improvisation,
dramatization and technical production elements. (Theatre II-IV) Technical and Theatre Arts: To
explore the nature
of performance through dramatic interpretation of dramatic literature and
characters. to survey the development of theatre as a part of our cultural
heritage. to relate thes aims to principles of modern education. To
participate in theatre activities having practical value later in life. To
emphasize personal development through participation in effective
theatre activities. to practice, through group activiites, citzenship
responsibilities and prinicple of a democratic society. To create more
discriminating audiences whichwill demand a high standard of
dramatic entertainment.
