Speech Specifics:
2-4 minutes (1st period, I will give you 5 mins. max)
One 4x6 notecard - you may not READ directly from this notecard
Outline: keyword/phrase. You still must have an intro and conclusion outlined out in the correct format
No bibliography required
No visual aid
This is a "pep talk" speech - INSPIRE US! Remember that in order for us to believe you, you have to
show us you believe in what you're saying. (voice, eye contact, PASSION)
Key things I'm wanting you to incorporate into this speech:
historical references that guide us
references to audience
signposting
simple main points
quotes from people we actually have heard of before (don't just google your subject and pick the first
quote that pops up)
imagery using your own personal stories
Challenge or a Call to Believe near or at the end of your speech
A vocal style that demonstrates your passion for your topic and for us to believe you.
Good use of pause and pacing throughout your speech. Slow down to let your audience process what
you're saying.
Questions? Can't think of a topic? Talk to your parents for ideas, talk with your teachers and friends,
look around for inspiration. You never know where that idea might come from. Look at your own
beliefs and find something you believe in.
