Word Recognition and Decoding Objectives:
TEKS:  (b) (1) The student uses a variety of word recognition strategies.
               Wilson Reading System is used for decoding and encoding.
*Assessment driven assignments are based on individual levels and goals.
       (4)  The student builds an extensive vocabulary through reading and
systematic word study
          Word Study:  1. Discovery Method; 2. Whole Group Instruction; 
3. Small Group Feature Analysis; 4. Word Sorts/Manipulatives; 5. Spelling
applications;5. Vocabulary Instruction in stems, 6. Reading Applications
*Assessment driven systematic instruction based on the five stages of spelling
development. Stems are whole group instruction.

Reading Fluency Objectives:  
TEKS:  (b) (2) The student reads with fluency and understanding in
increasingly demanding texts.
           Fluency :  1. Repeated Readings, Timed Reading Plus; 2. Read
Naturally Computer Program; 3. Comprehension Assessments 
*Assessment driven assignments are based on individual levels and goals.

Text and Comprehension Objectives:
TEKS:  (b)  (3) The student reads for different purposes in varied sources. 
       (5)  The student comprehends selections using a variety of strategies. 
       (6)  The student formulates and supports responses to various types of
texts.
       (7)   The student reads texts to find information on self-selected and
assigned topics.
       (8)  The student reads critically to evaluate texts and the credibility
of sources.
        (9)  The student reads to increase knowledge of his/her own culture,
the culture of others, and the common elements  of cultures. 
*Reading Apprenticeship is used to make reading strategies visible to
students.  Explicit strategies are taught and wide reading is done in whole
group instruction.  Response Journals and student self-selected texts are used
to support diversity of texts.
