Engineering
Welcome to engineering with Mr. Wise. There are three sections in this web
page, Principles
of Engineering, Digital
Electronics, and Introduction
to Engineering Design. You may click on the link to the left for
each class to obtain information about the course content, homework,
expectations, and supplies.
Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy is drawn from many different experiences in many
different areas - education (K-graduate school), athletics, music,
theatre, rock-and-roll production, sociology, design, engineering,
rigging, scenery fabrication, wood-working, emergency medicine,
spirituality, personal struggles, family, marriage, etc... I believe
that well-rounded, honest, and strong people make the best engineers. My
focus in the classroom is first on building meaningful relationships,
then equiping students with the tools they need to be successful in any
endeavor. I also believe in failure. Without failing and trying again,
we have no idea where our weaknesses are, and are not able to grow. So I
encourage students to take risks in the material and then learn and try
again. Instead of awarding the first grade, I always allow my students
to re-take tests, re-do projects, and try again. So, when students feel
that it's OK to fail, they will be more likely to think out of the box.
More than this, however, I beleive that students must be whole persons.
They must incorporate the physical, intellectual, emotional, and
spiritual into their work in and out of the classroom. It is vitally
important to our success both in the classrooom and in everything we do
that we constantly exercise our whole being so that we may become truly
who we were intended to be.
Engineering
Engineering is the creative process and methods of finding solutions to
problems. We will utilize knowledge of mathematics, algebra, physics,
chemistry, english, art, music, etc. to solve these problems. Here at
FHS engineering is rigorous, and extremely rewarding. You will be
expected to complete all assignments in a timely fashion, and come to
class prepared to learn. You will work hard, and you will receive
ten-fold from your efforts.
Contact
You and your parents are encouraged to contact Mr. Wise with any questions,
comments, or concerns you may have throughout the year as well as
keeping current with what's going on from week to week .
Website Expectations
It is vitally important to your success in engineering that you check these
pages DAILY. All homework, projects, test, and announcements will be
posted a minimum of every two days.
