My Policies and Procedures

Rules for misconduct:

1st offense - Warning

2nd offense - One on one discussion with teacher

3rd offense - Contact parents

4th offense - Teacher detention or referral to AP's office

The tardy policy will be strickly enforced in my classroom.  Unless you have a note explaning your late arrival, you will be considered tardy.  Remember that every third tardy to my class will amount to one absence.

Also, because math is a subject where every piece of information is vital for the comprehension of following material, I strongly discourage leaving my classroom for any reason besides an emergency or requirement.  You will not be allowed to leave to obtain forgotten materials for my class -- you must come prepared each day!  Use bathroom breaks only in emergencies and I will start to limit you if you take advantage of leaving too often.  If you must leave during the period to attend something else, I MUST have a note (or email) in order for you to be allowed to do so.

 Grades:

Grade distribution:  Daily and homework grades count 20% and quizzes and tests count 80%.  In the test/quiz averages, quizzes are entered one time and tests are entered two times (ex. - Q, T, T, Q, T, T, Q, ....).

Absences:

If you are absent on a quiz or test day, all quizzes and tests must be made up within one week of the absence -- NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

Any work missed because of an excused absence (other than SCHOOL BUSINESS) is accepted based on the following policy:  In accordance with the Mustang Manual,  “A student has as many days to make-up work as he/she was absent but a maximum of five days.  (Ex:  If a student is absent six days or more, all make-up work must be completed within five school days of his/her return).  Work that has been assigned prior to the student’s absence is due upon return.”

For absences due to School Business (athletics, band, choir, drama, fieldtrips, competitions, science fair, drill team, etc.), all schoolwork is to be made up in advance of the absence or it is to be completed upon the day of return.  Otherwise, it is considered late work and will not be accepted!

***If you are absent from class and need to obtain the lecture notes from the missed class, you MUST do this in my morning tutorial session.  I will not allow you to copy the lecture notes you missed during another class when you need to be concentrating on that day's material.  This is obviously just if you want the lecture notes from me.  If you cannot come to my room (2010) before school starts or if you just chose not to do so, you must get the lecture notes from a classmate.  I am a "floating" teacher which means that I don't have my own room that I can keep all of my teaching materials in.  I will typically not carry lecture notes from past lectures with me every day.

ALL work that is to be turned in to me MUST be done in pencil or there will be an automatic 5 point deduction on the assignment.  Homework is assigned just about every night.   It is due at the beginning of every class and will not be accepted if you try to turn it in after I pick it up.  You are given at least one warning to make sure that you remember to turn it in on time and if this cannot be done as expected then I will not take it.  The only exceptions are for those who show up to class after I have already collected the homework.

Tutorials:

During volleyball season I offer tutorials on Wednesday afternoons from 3:44 to 4:44 in my room.  Also, the math department has two tutorial sessions each week: Tuesday afternoon from 3:44 to 4:45 in room 118 or 114 and Friday mornings from 7:35 to 8:25 in room 2002.  If none of these options work for you, please see me and we can try to figure out another time that will.  If you need to make up a quiz or test see me so that we can make certain arrangements for doing so.
