We will be creating Social Contracts to help us work well together throughout the year. Social contracts are created by the class for the class. Students will come up with the rules they believe are fair and critical. These will be the behavioral guidelines we will follow all year. We will begin the contracts by answering the following questions: 1. How do you want to be treated by me (the teacher)? 2. How do you want to be treated by others (your classmates)? 3. How do you think I want to be treated by you? 4. When conflict arises, how should we handle it? Once these questions have been answered and discussed, we will create our contracts. Each student will sign the contract and it will be adopted. The classroom will act as a democracy and the majority will rule! Our discipline policy will focus on student responsibility: 1st Offense - Warning Four Questions will be asked: 1. What are you doing? 2. What are you supposed to be doing? 3. Are you doing it? 4. What are you going to do about that? This gives the student the opportunity to correct his or her own behavior without consequence. To procees to the following consequences, the student will have chosen to continue with previously addressed behavior. For the Cowboys team, this process will be considered 1 warning or "penalty flag", a student will receive two of these opportunities before further consequences result. On the third "penalty", a discipline assignment will be sent home with the student. Each subsequent "penalty" will result in an office referral. Please refer to the Flags and Penalties handout in your first day information! Please remember that the classroom is a place to learn. While we want to have fun, we also have some work to do. Please be a responsible student and remember our agreed upon behaviors in the classroom.
