Aug 24 - Handed out Student Interest Survey, class syllabus, and
Classroom Procedures papers. Class syllabus
bottom portion due Friday. Extra credit given if class supply is turned in to.
Aug 25 - Created bioglyph of self, exchanged with fellow students and
tried to find owner of faces. Turned in faces.
Aug 26 - Read Dr Seuss story "The Sneetches" and discussed meaning,
played version of Rock, Paper, Scissors with
different size groups to demonstrate working and communicating with a team.
Aug 27 - Set up Science Notebook, did first activity 'Paper and Marker'.
Aug 28 - Created Current Event example in Science Notebook for future
assignments.
Aug 31 - Handed out Science Lab Procedures, read together and glued
into Science Notebook, also added Safety
Symbols sheet and put in table of contents as Lab Safety.
Sept 1 - Gave quiz over lab safety for periods 1,2 & 4. Handed out
Following Directions activity and Scientific
Methods sheet. Went over 1-3,4 together and placed in pocket of Science
Notebook for use again tomorrow.
Sept 2 - Discussed #5 Procedure from Scientific Method sheet and
completed Lego Lab, wrote instructions in Science Notebook.
Sept 3 - Discussed #6 and 7 from Scientific Method sheet and completed
Paper airplane lab. Wrote conclusion according to Scientific Method sheet in
Science Notebook for homework.
Sept 4 - Coke vs. Diet Coke product comparison to show concept of
density, measured mass and volume of selected items to calculate density. Will
complete Tuesday Sept 8th.

Sept 10 - Read Ch 1 sec 3 and defined Model, Theory and Law in vocab
section of Science Notebook. Discussed examples and limitations.
Sept 11 - Handed out review for test next Tuesday Sept 15th and allowed
students all period to complete. Review is due on day of test!! Start studying

Sept 30 - Finished questions for Big Bang Lab, Handed out Telescope
notes, read together and answered questions...placed in back pocket of science
notebook.
Oct 1 - Galaxy classification activity, in table groups came up with
group descriptions for all galaxies. Turned in Science notebook for grade.
Oct 2 - Handed out Galaxy notes and discussed different types. Did Spin
Is In Lab showing how motion of galaxy causes shape.
Oct 5 - Black hole computer lab, if not finished by end of period can
either take home to finish or come in during tutorials to finish.
Oct 6 - Students turned in Black Hole computer lab, warm up answer
question in notebook 'What did you learn about Black holes', PowerPoint notes
over Life Cycle of Star...illustrated them for tomorrows poster activity.
Oct 7 - Created life cycle of stars poster using chalk and black
construction paper.
Oct 8 - Graphed absolute magnitude and temperature of stars to create
H-R Diagram. Answered questions on back of lab sheet using graph and info on
pages 638-639 of textbook.
Oct 9 - Tight Rope to the Stars lab about light years

Oct 20 - Finished Early Models packet and reviewed, began Timeline of
atomic models activity and put in notebook.
Oct 21 - Used Early models packet and Timeline sheet to complete quiz,
went over together as a class(not a grade), started amazing atom packet.
Oct 22 - Picked up, completed and turned in pink atomic structure
packet, finished white amazing atom packet.
Oct 23 - Reviewed amazing atom packet and picked up blue Atoms Family
packet. 1st, 2nd, 4th completed packet and took quiz. 6th and 7th started
packet.
Oct 26 - Handed back graded pink packets and quizes(1st, 2nd, 4th),
completed yellow Periodic Table Notes together and glued in science notebook,
began Periodic Table Basics activity. 6th and 7th took quiz and discussed
instructions for Periodic Table Basics activity.
Oct 27 - Completed Periodic Table Basics in class, homework if not
finished.
Oct 28 - Turned in Periodic Table Basics at beginning of class, created
Chemistry bag from brown paper grocery bag.
Oct 29 - Began mini foldable on physical and chemical changes and
properties for Chemistry in a Bag project.
Oct 30 - Finished mini foldable from yesterday(if not finished homework
over weekend!) and started physical and chemical properties of periodic table
groups on purple sheets(9 total). Will finish in class on Monday Nov. 2.

Nov 10 - Handed out graphic organizer for Bonding notes, discussed and
took notes on ionic and covalent bonding, glued graphic organizer in science
notebook and viewed sugar and salt under microsope to compare ionic and
covalent bonds.
Nov 11 - Reviewed Atoms, atomic theory and structure and the periodic
table for test tomorrow.
Nov 12 - Test over atoms, atomic theory and structure and the periodic

Nov 13 - Acid and base lab using cabbage juice as an indicator to tell
pH and formation of salts.
Nov 16 - Defined Organic Compound in science notebook, discussed and
classified organic and inorganic substances found around the classroom,
defined hydrocarbons and discussed plastic. Students wrote a page in their
notebooks how their life would change if plastic were no longer available.
Nov 17 - Plastic Polymer Ball lab, made polymer ball from glue,
cornstarch and Borax solution.
Nov 18 - Named the 4 clues indicating a chemical reaction has occurred,
discussed teacher demo of sodium reacting in water, did quick lab on page 114
and put materials list, hypothesis, procedure and observations in science
notebook. Handed out class copy of notes on chemical formulas and discussed.
Defined chemical formula and subscript in notebook.
Nov 19 - Completed worksheet on chemical formulas and turned in,
discussed chemical equations and completed note sheet.
Nov 20 - Began balancing chemical equations, worked with manipulatives,
on the board and independantly.
