My child turned in their homework, but the gradebook website has a ___ .
As you can imagine grading 150-160 papers is a time consuming
process. Then I also have to keep track of who was absent and who
has not turned in their assignments. In order to keep track of everything,
I
enter each assignment into the gradebook as I collect it.
If your student just has a ____ for an assignment, then they have turned
the work in. I just have not graded it yet. Everything is fine!
However, you will have to calculate the average yourself. I use a simple
average for grading. Take the total number of points and divide by the
number of assignments. Do not count the ____ assignment.
If an assignment has annotation #1(see above) and a zero then they
have not turned that assignment in. In this case the average is correct
until the assignment is turned in
If your student has annotation #4(see above) and EXC then your student
was absent. This assignment needs to be turned in as soon as
possible, but no late points will be taken off. The current average is
correct.
My grade is wrong! Can you fix it?
I am human! I make mistakes! I have entered 10's for 100's. I have
flipped numbers 68 for 86. I have entered grades on the wrong line:
Jimmy's grade for Jenny's. I will happily fix my mistakes, IF YOU CAN
PROVE IT! Too many students throw their papers away after I return
them. Without the paper there is no proof, and the grade will not
change! With the paper I will apologize for my momentary stupidity and
change the grade!
Why am I being asked to sign my child's test? Is there anything I need to do?
My tests are hard. If your student does not study they will not pass. I
expect at least one hour of studying before each test. Your child should
know what is on the test. The Warm-Ups notebook should have the
information that will be on the test. Unfortunatly, not all 8th graders
study, and sometimes they fail my tests. This should never cause a
student to fail my class. In MOST (not all) cases test corrections are
available. For test corrections students have 1 week to write each
question and correct answer they missed 5 times each. If the grade is
below a 75 a parent signature is required next to the original grade.
I post my test date 1 to 2 weeks ahead of time. Please make sure your
student studies. If you find yourself signing a lot of test you need to have
your child come in for tutorials in my classroom Tuesday or Thursday at
8:05.
Is there any extra credit?
I only offer one extra credit assignment a nine weeks. It is only
assigned at specific time that will be posted on the website. The extra
credit will replace the lowest non-zero grade.
