About The Teacher
Degree: B.S. Elementary Education, University of Houston, 1987 Certifications: General Elementary, Math, ESL, Spanish Memberships: AATSP (The American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese) Costa del Sol (Local organization of teachers of Spanish and Portuguese) Teaching History: I taught in HISD for nine years before taking a 10 year hiatus to stay at home with my family. I returned to the world of public education three years ago when my youngest child went to kindergarten. While in HISD, I taught 2nd Grade Reading for 1 year, 1st and 2nd Grade ESL(English as a Second Language) for 4 years, 1st Grade Bilingual for 1 year, and 7th Grade ESL for 3 years. My responsibilities as an ESL teacher were to help Spanish-speaking (and a few Vietnamese and Nigerian) students learn English. I am now going the other way in the process and helping English- speaking students learn Spanish. I truly believe this is one of the most wonderful jobs in the world, and I am very excited about the opportunity to help your children not only fulfill a graduation requirement, but acquire a skill that will hopefully enrich their lives.
Mission Label:
Mission
The official course objective of this class is to develop the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish, as well as an appreciation of Hispanic culture. My personal goal is for the students to begin a life-long journey that will lead to a love of the Spanish language and Spanish-speaking people!
