Tidbits about Mrs. Martin...

I am excited to be teaching at Friendswood Junior High again this year! I
obtained both my Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of
Houston-Clear Lake, and my teaching certification is 4-8 Social Studies & 8-
12 Social Studies. Can you tell that I like Social Studies???

I have four terrific children (yes, I am a little biased!). My oldest
daughter graduated from Friendswood High School in 2007, and is a junior in
college. My oldest son graduated from Friendswood High School in 2009, and
is a freshman in college. My other two children are currently attending
Friendswood High School. My son is a junior and my youngest daughter is a
freshman.

I also have one adorable Shih-Tzu named Maggie, and one very cranky cat named
Sassy. I love to read and love history (of course!). And, yes, I think the
History Channel is awesome! In my spare time (of which there is not much), I
enjoy tinkering in the yard, traveling when I can, going to the movies,
NASCAR, going out to eat, and yes...just like you, hanging out with my
friends!

I love old black and white movies, my favorite colors are shades of pink and
purple, and I LOVE home grown tomatoes! Other things you might want to know
about me ~ just ask ~ I'll usually answer!

Aspirations for the Class

I hope to inspire my students to understand the importance of reading and
learning about history. I cannot improve upon what Ms. Fritz has stated ~
history is so much more than just a "bunch of old dead guys" ~ there is a
lot to be learned and I hope to make at least some of it interesting for the
students. Who knows ~ you may even develop your own passion for history
along the way :)

So to answer the age-old question ~ "why do we have to learn about
history?" -- history tells us (as the world, a nation, & a state) where
we've been, how we got to where we are now, AND at times, it can even help
us prognosticate where we might be going!
