Frequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
Students receive a strike when they are absent for any reason. Please understand that this is partially an accounting system to keep track of absences. It is stated in the Choir Handbook that if you get 4 excused OR 3 unexcused absences per semester OR a combination of those adding up to no more than 4. Please be sure to send a note to the next rehearsal after a missed date and sign and return the strike form ASAP so your child does not receive another strike.Back to Top
Behavior is paramount during rehearsals. Because we have 100 students in the choir, there is NO room for misbehavior during rehearsals, on field trips, or during concerts. Rest assured that students displaying inappropriate behavior WILL receive strikes, and after three, they are OUT. This is important to the success of the group as a whole, and detractors will not be tolerated.Back to Top
Do I need to send a doctor's note when my child is absent?
No, not unless your child has an ongoing or lengthy illness that keeps him/her from rehearsals for 3 consecutive weeks or more. A note of explanation from you will be fine.Back to Top
What if my child misses a performance event?
Missing a performance event, or concert, is taken VERY seriously. The children work very hard to prepare for concerts, and all members of the choir are expected to attend. Please make these events a priority over other things your child is involved in on a weekly basis because the success of the choir depends on having ALL members in attendance for a performance.Back to Top
Do strikes accumulate all year?
No, only by semester. All students will have 0 strikes starting in January. It's a clean slate each semester.Back to Top
If the school district shuts down due to bad weather, do we have rehearsal?
No. Neither do we have rehearsal if the district cancels after-school or evening activities and events due to bad weather. Please err on the side of caution in situations like these. Don't put you or your child at risk.Back to Top
