About The Teacher
Donna Staten is entering her second year at Gattis. Prior to that, she was an art specialist in Temple ISD for 22 years. Her students were recognized at state, national, and international levels numerous times. She has had 92 winners in the prestigious International Children's Art Exhibition, judged in Japan, including 12 Gold medals and 2 Supreme Gold medals. Fifteen students were named national winners by the Crayola Dream-Makers Art-in-Education Program, and 17 students were named to the Save the Children Permanent Artist Collection. Numerous student artworks have been published in books,magazines, journals, calendars and other publications. Ms. Staten's online student gallery at Artsonia.com has consistently been rated among the top schools and she has received the Artsonia Leadership Award several times. She was also the first ever "Camp Crayola" director for Binney & Smith. She has spoken at state level conferences and to numerous civic groups; served on a TEA Textbook Panel; and is published in Arts & Activities Magazine. She has curated a number of international art exhibits and is listed in Who's Who in the World and Who's Who in Education for her work with art education. Ms. Staten's students have been exhibited at these locations: Crayola Factory, Easton, PA; US Dept of Educ. Bldg. and the Caring Institute, both in Washington DC; EPCOT/Disneyworld; IACA World Awareness Children’s Museum and the Empire State Building, both in New York; Texas Governor’s Office; Texas Capitol; Springfield, Utah, Museum of Art; Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center and many universities. Internationally: Russia, Czech Republic, Japan, France, Romania and other countries.
