Reading Your child should read every day. Your child will not receive a new baggie book every day but should read either the baggie book, a library book or a book from home each night. When reading the baggie book, it's okay for your child to read the book more than once. Maybe the first time the child will focus on figuring out the difficult words (accuracy) and the second reading is when you can ask questions about what happened in the story (or have your child retell the story in his/her own words). Spelling The children no longer have spelling homework but they are completing their spelling activities in class during the morning block. Scholastic News The students will be completing a Scholastic News page for homework on each Monday. Math Math homework will be coming home each Wednesday. It may be a page or a game/activity that reinforces a skill that your child has learned at school. Take Home Journal Each Friday, your child will bring home a composition book. Your child should make a plan and write a story. Remember to look at the sight words in your child's binder so he/she will spell the sight words correctly. (Your child may write more than one story in the book each weekend.) You can turn many learning opportunities into a game and it makes homework a lot more fun for your child! (Treasure hunt for sight words in your child's book, create a bingo game with rhyming words or math problems. etc...) Thanks to everyone for taking the time to work with your child!
