Home Learning

I want your child to be as sucessful as possible in my class. They have such
potential. At this age, they take in so many new things that I am always
amazed and delighted. I truly love to see the growth in each of my "babies"
from August to May. My goal is to make sure that your child understands to
the best of their ability what I am teaching in class.

Home learning is a vital part of your child's education. There are many
activities that you can do with your child each night that do not require a
pre-printed worksheet. My philosophy, as well as experience, is that often
times if the child doesn't fully understand the concept presented on the pre-
printed sheet it gets done for the child and turned back to me. Then when
the time comes for me to assess the child, they are unable to master the
assessment.

I sent home a blue folder with every child in the class back in September.
The folder contained a packet of activities and pointers on how parents can
work wih their children at home. Please keep this folder at home in a safe
place to use all year. Should you need another packet, please feel free to
let me know. I'll be happy to get you one.

I have also sent a packet of kindergarten sight words for the entire year.
Please use the flash cards to review the words that have been introduced in
class. Again, should you need a another packet, please contact me and I can
get you one.

Please read with your child each night. Be sure to stop and ask questions
about the text. This will help to increase comprehension.

Writing is also an important skill for your child to aquire. Take a piece
of plain computer paper, have your child draw a line in the middle
horizontally. Your child can then sketch a picture plan above the line and
write about the picture below the line. They are responsible for spelling
introduced sight words correctly and sound spell other words, such as
favorite, play, race, etc.

Last bit of information, be sure to check out the math mania section and the
link section of my website. There are a great deal of activities that you
can use and do with your child to reinforce skills that we are learning in
class.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.
