What can I ask my child after they read their books?

Here are some simple questions you can start asking your child
after they
read (more will be coming in their book bags):
*What happening in the beginnig, middle, and end of the story?
*Who were the characters (or people in the story)?
*What was the setting of the story (or where it happened)?
*What was your favorite part?
*Why do you think the character was (pick a feeling)?
*Did you learn something new from your book?

Can I bring birthday cupcakes for my child's birthday?

Yes you may but they have to be passed out after our lunch time.
You can
either drop the treats off in the morning (and I will pass them
out for you
after lunch) or you may bring them up when we are able to eat
them (11:30).

HELP!!! I need help with my child's Spelling Homework..

We complete the front side of the paper in class during our
spelling time. That is when I dictate phonograms and words to
the kids, and they write from memory. You can check over it to
see how your child is doing. At the bottom of the front page, I
will give them three to four new words, which we will have
written three times in class.

Your child's responsibility at home is to complete the back side
of this paper. At the top they are to write any words they
misspelled in dictation three times each (this could also be a
handwriting mistake). These are ONLY the words I have written
next to their work in a different color (look on front side
at 'Word Dictation' section). There is only enough space for
your child to miss five words. If for some reason he/she misses
more, those words can be written on a separate sheet of paper.

The next section of homework is 'ABC Order'. Your child should
put only the 3-4 new words in ABC order. Some days we will have
three new words and some days there will be four.

The last section of homework is using the four sentence types.
We have discussed these in class and your child should be
familiar with them. If not, feel free to assist your child. New
spelling words should be used in sentences. Each new spelling
word should be used in one of their sentences.
Sentence Types:
*Declarative-tells-end with a period
*Interrogative-ask a question-end with a question mark
*Imperative-commands or request (“bossy”)-end with a period
*Exclamatory-shows strong emotion-end with an exclamation mark

What if my child needs a lot of my guidance on their homework?

Please write me a note if your child is struggling with the
homework given.
Sometimes there are skills that they do fine at school but when
by
themselves, they may struggle with. Homework should be a
relaxing time to
review skills already taught while learning responsiblity as
well. If your
child is getting frustated, please let me know so we can fix the
problem.
