About The Teacher
Welcome to Kindergarten! I wanted to take this time to introduce myself, my name is Sarah Newsom and I am a kindergarten teacher at Gattis Elementary. I LOVE teaching kindergarten. This is my fifth year at Gattis Elementary and I love it here! My previous experience includes working as a special education teacher and parent / in-home trainer for children with autism. I had such an amazing time working with children with special needs. I am positive that I can teach any child with and without challenges using multiple techniques and strategies. I attended college at Texas A&M University and earned a bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. I am certified as a general education teacher EC-4, a special education teacher EC-12, and I have my ESL and GT certifications. My future goals include working towards a masters degree and publishing the childrens books that I have written. On a personal note, I recently got married to the greatest man I have ever met. We are so happy living in Round Rock and are looking forward to starting a family. I am really looking forward to a great year! My main goal for my class is to learn as much as we possibly can. Every single minute of the day holds an opportunity for a teaching moment. We will go above and beyond in academic and social areas. We will also be an inclusive class. We will have children with special needs join us for parts of our day. Feelings such as empathy, compassion, and acceptance of others will emerge. This is one of my favorite things to watch transpire. I want to sincerely thank you for sharing your children with me. I promise to do my best by teaching them to the greatest of my ability and loving them as if they were my own!
