5th grade Social Studies curriculum consists of studying map skills, geography, and American History.
Nov. 16 - 20
American Slave Trade
The focus will be on the slave trade of the 1600's. This will involve writing in their interactive notebooks about the delimmas the West African's faced. The writing component will be for the students to write as if he/she were a West African during this time.
Nov. 22 - Dec. 3
Causes of the American Revolution
The students will learn of the causes and effects of how the colonists became frustrated with the British government. To help make a personal connection, many of the actions and results are compared to parent/child relationship issues. The students will continue to work in their interactive notebooks. Please take the time to have your student explain what they have done in this booklet.
Different Viewpoints
The students will learn about the three different viewpoints of the colonists. The Loyalists wanted to stay with Britain, the Patriots wanted independence, and the Neutralists did not have a preference. The students will learn about three Loyalists and three Patriots, their actions, and their reasons for their beliefs.
