Madame has taught all over the world, ages 3 to adulthood.
She learned to speak French as a child, since her grandmother
lived with the family and did not speak English. Her mother
and grandmother were from Belgium. As a result of her ex-husband's
career, she has traveled and lived in the Pacific Rim, mainly in
the southern part of the United States, some central and eastern
states, and in Europe. She has a masters degree from the University
of North Texas.
Students are asked to devote time to study written and spoken French.
They are encouraged to use French in the classroom, to learn to think in
French and not translate from English to French. Conversation in the target
language is a glorious goal and can be reached if students are willing to
practice and personalize the language. A student can not be forced to put
forth the effort needed to learn another language, but they can often be
inspired to try. Grammar is also an essential part of the language and
necessary for good written communication, but it is not the sole focus of
the class. Madame's hope is that the students will be able to visit
Francophone regions of the world and converse with the people, to use the
experience of the study of French to be the competitive choice for future
professions in medicine, journalism, international business, law, art,
teaching and more. Above all,she hopes students will leave high school with
an open heart to other cultures and have the goal to continue to explore and
learn in the future.
