Dear parents,
Since this week is the mid-way point of the nine-weeks, I wanted to take the
opportunity to remind you that your TAG student needs to have read 10 books
by the end of this nine-weeks (which is March 5th). Instead of the worksheets
they did last nine weeks, the after-reading activities are available in a
menu format. Each student received a hard copy of the menu and it is also
available on my Handouts page. Just like last nine weeks, this is one of
their reading grades for the nine-weeks. If they read 10 books and complete
10 activities, their grade is a 100. If they complete 9, their grade is a 90
and so on.
I can't wait to see the fourth-grade IIM projects. In talking with them, I
can tell that the kids have learned a LOT about the people they researched.
The biography they read counts as one of their ten books and their IIM
project counts as its post-reading activity.
I told the students on Monday that their spelling test is Friday (tomorrow),
not Monday. I thought it would be better if they didn't have to worry about
spelling over the weekend. Starting next week, the spelling format is going
to change a bit and the words will go back to lasting just one week.
MATH:
Our fourth Olympiad contest is Tuesday of next week--February 9th. Everyone
did well during the geometry unit and now we're on to fractions! I'm excited,
but I like pretty much everything about math. Well, except the trig class I
took in my senior year of high school. I loved algebra I, II, and geometry,
but I hit a wall in trig!
Hope you're staying dry,
Jenny
