Welcome to Week 23 -- Feb 8 - Feb 12:
Our children have certainly enjoyed their Science experimentationwith simple machines and static electricity. Everyone received a
brand new comb and used it to pick up negative charges from their
own hair. Then they held the charged comb near a sprinkling of
dried parsley flakes. The parsley jumped, danced, and sometimes
even bolted off the paper ! They also observed the electrical field
where charged objects interact by using magnets. This week, we'll
experiment with battery-supplied current to light a bulb. We have
talked at length about safety around electrical components.
This is the final week of the Souper Bowl of Caring. Please send in any donation you can spare, no matter how small. Fourth Graders are scheduled to pack all 5,000+ items on Thursday. The Capital Area Food Bank will arrive on Friday to pick up all the donated goods. Students can feel proud of their efforts and generosity. Great Oaks has surpassed its original goal of 5,000 items. Our children are learning valuable lessons about compassion and the ability for one person to make a difference. Thank you sincerely to all parents who have supported this effort.
