I am thrilled to be a part of the Great Oaks community! The 2009-2010 school
year will be my third at Great Oaks Elementary and my fifth year of
teaching. You might say that it took me a while to "find my niche" - I
taught sixth grade language arts, then second grade, then fourth grade, and I
moved to special education last year. I absolutely LOVE working with special
services at Great Oaks! I cannot imagine a better team of educators than
those I work with every day. I feel blessed to be a part of this campus, and
especially for the opportunity to work with your children.
Just a little bit about myself.....
I grew up in Katy, Texas and went to college at Trinity University in San
Antonio, Texas, where I earned my bachelor's degree in Humanities and
Sociology and a Master of Arts in Teaching with a focus in special
education. I married my husband Philip in 2004, and we moved up to Maine
where he was stationed with the U.S. Navy. As much as we loved living in
Maine, we were VERY ready to move back home to Texas when his enlistment was
over. We have lived in the Austin area for over 2 years. We chose this area
because of the reputation of the school districts (for me) and the Austin
live music scene (for him). Philip is a singer/songwriter and performs
locally in Cedar Park and in Austin. He has been employed as a worship
leader at local churches and often travels to play music at retreats. We do
not have children, but we do have an adorable almost-two-year-old golden
retriever named Murphy who is the love of our lives :)
When I'm not at school I enjoy listening to live music (especially my
husband), reading, cooking and entertaining in our home, taking Murphy to
dog parks, being outdoors, running, and yoga. I recently started vegetable
gardening, which I greatly enjoy though I am not very good at it yet. I am
also training to complete my first marathon in February.
I love my work as an educator and look forward to working with you and your
children! I am looking forward to a wonderful school year!
