Dear Parents,
I hope your week has been warm and peaceful!
Well, our students have done a fabulous job at KGOE! I have been so proud of them! Ms. Hannah, Ms. Grindle and I really wanted each student to be able to experience both the technical and broadcast ends of KGOE even if for just one day. Because of the number of students, vs. the number of broadcast days, it was a nightmare trying to fit them all into a slot, but we did it! LOL! Thanks so much for getting your kiddos here on time to perform. I know how hard that is!
Our Social Studies lessons for the week have dealt with the tensions between the colonies and the British Government. I was sure that the students would be bored with Jigsawing the chapters, so I allowed them to vote on whether they needed a change. The students spoke and Jigsaws continued. This week we read all of Chapter 10 to ourselves independently, and then they broke into their new Jigsaw groups and put on a presentation that had to represent the main idea of the subtitle they were assigned, as well as supporting details. Each student has to play a role in the contribution of the information. We wrap those up tomorrow! So far, they've measured up to their prior academy performances!
I have also been performing... the district's reading assessments! I have been testing all three classes this week for certain students. Your student may or may not have been tested. I am almost finsihed with those! Thank goodness! The students have responded to reading prompts about their Just Right book this week, and they will chose which prompt they would like me to grade tomorrow. Some kiddos have been SO excited about their books. They've insisted that I read some of them. My summer list is growing! Next week we will begin literature circles. Students will be grouped, assigned and provided a book, by me!
Lastly, a big CONGRADULATIONS to Jeune for being the Spelling Bee Champ! WoooooHoooooo! We are also excited to have welcomed a new friend to our class family by the name of Devon! Devon joins us from another school here in the district and we are so happy he is here! WooooooHoooooo!
A few reminders:
Our SOUPERBOWL of Caring kicks off Jan 25th and we are in a friendly competition with Brushy Creek Elementary and Anderson Mill Elementary. THEY'RE GOING DOWN! :) Bring in the peanut butter and tuna, people!
Our Valentines Day party will be Feb 12th in the morning!
Thanks to those who have contributed soldier supplies! The kids will be making them a valentine tomorrow. Let's remember our troops who are away from their families! Do what you can, when you can.
Please know how much I appreciate all you do for your children and our school!
Have a great weekend!
Ms. Adams
