We'll be continue our schoolwide collection of food items for the SouperBowl
of Caring. We'll collect food items for this worthy cause through February
12. Our goal was 5000 items. We have already exceeded that goal, but every
item above that is one more person fed. Our class alone has already donated
321 items. Thank you so much for your generousity.

This is what we'll be doing next week:

Language Arts: We will be reading stories that emphasize the /er/, /ir/, /ur/
patterns. We'll work at recognizing story elements and the sequence of events
through a story. We'll be writing friendly letters as well as descriptive
paragraphs.

For spelling this week, we'll be doing several activities with the children's
names.

Math: Please make time for your child to practice addition facts each day.
Our goal is for the children to have automatic recall of addition facts with
sums to 10 by the end of the year. The children are becoming more adept at
recoginizing and counting coins. It would be great if you could provide
random opportunities at home for your child to tell you the names of the
coins in your pocket.

In Social Studies, we will begin our study of U.S. symbols and historical
figures.

In Science we'll complete activities related to light and optics.

Please be sure your child has a name or initials on their jackets and coats
if possible. Sometimes there are jackets left in the classroom and I know
they belong to one of my students, but no one will claim it and it ends up in
the lost and found.

I hope you all have a great weekend.
