My name is Melinda Schermerhorn, and I am very happy to teach at Great Oaks!
This will be my 2nd year at Great Oaks Elementary. I am a 1996 graduate of
the University of Texas. My major was Applied Learning and Development and I
specialized in Earth Science.
I have lived in Austin since the age of 3. My family moved here so that my
father could attend UT. I attended Austin Schools; Govalle, Cook, Burnet
Middle School and Lanier High School. During my senior year, I met my
husband Steve. We were married in 1994 and have 2 children. We have been
parents of 2 Geckos for the last 7 years. Our son Nicolas has been at Great
Oaks since the age of 3 and will now be in 5th grade and our daughter Isabel
will be in 4th. We also have 1 hermit crab named Brian, 1 robo hamster named
Chuy and a beloved welsh corgi named Fergie.
I am the youngest of three girls and am very close to my family. I have two
nieces and two nephews and three of them attend Patsy Sommer Elementary down
the road. My father and my sisters are also alumni of the University of
Texas. We are all true Texas fans! Hook ‘Em Horns!!
Great Oaks is a WOW school! I feel lucky as a parent to have my own children
attending Great Oaks and I will strive to make sure your child gets the very
best education.
