Brrrr! The weather has been rather chilly, but we are staying warm and busy in portable 10!
Souper Bowl of Caring: We have 70 items collected of the 300 item goal that we had set for our class. Keep those items coming! We are helping out families just like The Hernandez family, as the donations to the Captial Area Food Bank are distributed to other centers like the Round Rock Serving Center. The RRSC where the Hernandez family is able to receive much needed food for their family.
Book Order: I have a book order available online or with the actual paper book orders, that is due Wednesday.

Valentine's Day Party: The party will be from 1:10 - 2:10 on Friday, February 12th. It will be similar to the holiday party, in that there will be a few stations with activities related to the holiday, for the kids to enjoy. There will also be treats, a Valentine's Box contest (everyone will get an award) and, of course, a valentine exchange. Please let me know if you are available to help out!!
Here is a breakdown of what we have been studying and what we will be learning about :
IIM's!!! As you know, the students have been working a lot of long, hard hours on their IIM biographies. The students will be expected to complete about half of the work in class and half of the work at home. Thank you so much for helping them at home!! If there is any confusion about this project, please contact me with any questions. Check out the "Homework" page on this website for an attached checklist showing what is expected for their final products. I'm seeing a lot of creativity in action!
WRITING!!!! This week we are planning and writing a paper about a special place. I have been focusing on choosing a clear main event for the paper and also helping them make sure they have a specifc system to plan their paper that they feel comfortable using.
Camp Write Along will be the week of February 22nd. The Friday before camp, (February 19th at 2:00 p.m.) we will need donations for camp related décor and a few helping hands to get our classroom decked out in a camp gear. I will send out more detailed information as the date approaches. Please let me know if you have items and/or can help set up the classroom.
Math: We wrapped up decimal concepts today and will be moving on to adding and subtracting decimals. We will be having a math activity that has high approval ratings with former fourth grade students called, "Atomic Cafe" this week. They will be practicing adding and subtracting decimals with a made up cafe menu.
Social Studies: Texas and the Civil War
Science: Non Living Systems
Reading: We will be reading our “Just Right” books and developing thoughtful written responses.
