PE PolicyPhysical Education Policies and Procedures 2009-2010 Program Overview and Goals The next few years will be a time of tremendous physical, social and emotional change for our students. Our mission is to create an environment that challenges the students to develop unique abilities and strive to reach their best physically, academically and socially. The goals for the Grisham IB World School Physical Education Program are to help the students: ü Better understand their body and how it functions during physical activity. ü Acquire and maintain a high level of physical fitness. ü Develop a variety of sports skills. ü Become more responsible mentally, socially, emotionally and physically. ü Assume responsibility for their personal health and well-being through an active lifestyle. The benefits derived from the physical education program depend upon the amount of effort and positive attitude which a student displays. Physical education is an activity oriented class designed to develop and maintain healthy habits that lead to increased levels of physical fitness. The overall aim of the class is to help students develop lifelong fitness skills that include regular exercise and sport. Locker Room Procedures: NO HORSEPLAY OF ANY KIND WILL BE TOLERATED!!
· Black GMS PE shorts (length of shorts must follow school dress code). · Gray GMS PE shirt. · White socks and tennis shoes with non-marking soles.
· Are optional, but due to a short class periods, we ask that girls do not wash their hair. Towels are not provided. · It is recommended that a wash cloth, soap, deodorant, etc be brought and kept in your locker within a large gallon-sized Zip-Lock baggy (This is also a good place to keep any other personal belongings like jewelry). A towel is also recommended.
· DO NOT share your locker or combination with anyone. · Memorize your combination. · Lock everything in your locker. Lockers are not big enough for belongings other than PE clothes. · If you lose your lock, check with your teacher. Lost locks will cost you $5
· Lock your jewelry up in your locker – preferably in a zip-lock bag. Loose jewelry may fall through holes in locker. Do not ask your teacher to hold your jewelry – we might lose it. · The only jewelry you are allowed to wear during class are stud earrings.
· Keep your locker locked before, during, and after class. · Leave nothing out during class. · Mark your name on all of your physical education clothes. · The school is not responsible for any losses.
· No aerosol spray cans. No glass bottles. · No food or drink, except for water, allowed in dressing room or gym. Grading: 35% Fitness Ø This category includes TriFit, Heart Rate Monitors, etc. 65 % Physical Education Ø This category includes skills tests (20%); participation (25%); progress (20%). Dressing Out: Students will be expected to dress-out daily. Dressing daily is a complete change of clothing (into PE uniform) and proper tennis shoes. Failure to dress out will result with the following consequences: 1st Time – Warning (one per semester). 2nd Time – Student conference. 3rd Time – Teacher assigned detention and parent phone call. 4th Time or more – Discipline referral. Daily work points can also be deducted for not participating in class and/or having a poor attitude. Excuse Notes: Students will not be excused from physical education activities unless the student can provide his/her teacher with a handwritten excuse from a parent/guardian (excused up to 3 days) or a physician or school nurse (required for more than 3 days of excused participation).
