Thanks to Taylor J for submitting...   It seems the earth's crust is missing a large chunk in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean in an area called the mid-Atlantic Ridge.  Scientists will participate in a research mission in March and April to examine this more closely and try to figure out why.  Check it out here: The Classroom @ Sea Project :  http://www.noc.soton.ac.uk/gg/classroom@sea/JC007/about.html
