2007-2008 will be my fourth year at Grisham Middle School.
I have nine years of teaching experience overall, both at the high school
and middle schol levels. I have taught in Pineville, Louisiana, Simsboro,
Louisiana, Denton, Texas, Keller, Texas, Breckenridge, Texas, and now here
at Grisham!
I have been married for five years to Alison, who is a Pediatric
Occupational Therapist at the Dell Children's Medical Center near downtown
Austin. We have two fat cats named Rambo and Gordon and a crazy dog named
Cosmo.
I graduated from Northwestern State University in Louisiana in May, 1998. I
have a Bachelor's degree in Health and Human Performance with a minor in
English. I grew up in Pollock, Louisiana, where I was very active in high
school. In addition to academic activities, I played varsity football,
basketball, and baseball. I also ran cross country and track. I was active
in my church youth group, and I visit my home town at least three or four
times a year.
My hobbies include reading (of course), playing guitar (badly), playing golf
(also badly), mountain biking, and working in my yard.
In this language arts class, we will build on each student's previous
knowledge of reading and writing, moving through more complex tasks as the
year progresses. We will study and apply real - world skills in reading and
writing through a wide variety of experiences.
I expect students to listen closely, ask intelligent questions, be open to
new ideas and experiences, and to take as much from this class as they
possibly can.We will, of course, prepare for the upcoming TAKS tests, but
TAKS will not be our sole focus. We will read to explore a variety of
literature and use what we read as models to help us shape our own writing,
both for ourselves and for a diverse audience.
Students can expect me to be energetic, positive, and engaged with everyone
in the class. Students can expect this class to be challenging, thought-
provoking, and exciting.
I hope we can work together to make this year a productive, memorable one.
