How is art a meaningful part of education?
Art is a great form of expression, and it is an emotional outlet and relaxation tool for students. Art education emphasizes creativity and critical thinking, tools that are essential to your child's success in ALL subjects. Art is part of a "well-rounded" education, an education that provides diverse, hand-on learning opportunities. Art students are engaged learners. Art class is a safe environment in which to experiment with new ideas. Students are encouraged to take risks. If a project fails... we create another one. The process and product are BOTH important. Many students who struggle with "core" academics find success in art. Students see visual proof of their improvement as the year progresses.Back to Top

Answers to assorted random student questions:
I'm 5'11", and yes, I know that's "really tall for a girl." Yes, my hair is naturally curly. Nope, no time to straighten it. Older than you are! My favorite color is green, all shades. My favorite things include: lip gloss, magnets, junk food (working on that!), Dr. Pepper (quit drinking caffeine as my '09 New Year's resolution... so far, so good), shoes, and candles. Hook 'em Horns! I grew up in Lampasas, Texas. (About an hour north on 183 from Austin city limits.) If I weren't an art teacher I'd be a school counselor, a lawyer, an interior decorator, or a princess. I'm a Democrat. My kids are Shelbi (11) and Braxton (4). I have one pet, a black lab named Layla.Back to Top
