I'm a 2002 graduate of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, and I have
Art and Elementary teaching certificates for grades 1-8. The 2009-2010
school year will be my 8th year of teaching. I taught Art I for a year at
Nolan Middle School in Killeen, before coming to Grisham in '03/'04.
Being an art teacher is really cool. Who wouldn't enjoy coming to work
and teaching a subject that's so much fun? I love art, especially working
with collage, paint, and Prismacolors. I'm not always the best with
words, but I can draw or paint how I'm feeling with no problem.
I think it's amazing that art is such a universal language. My favorite
artists are Kahlo, Kandinsky, Klimt, Matisse, and Varo, and I like each of
them because of their strong use of color and their individual styles. Even
though each of these artists lived and worked in different parts of the
world, their work "speaks" to me nonetheless.
Students often ask why I like teaching. Witnessing the unexpected and
original ideas students come up with is my favorite part of the job. The
creativity and fearlessness of young artists is inspiring!
Our mission is to improve and expand our skills as artists by working with a
variety of media in new and creative ways.
