Learning Log & MYP integration

 Science is an active, interesting, and ever changing subject that is involved in so many aspects of our daily lives.  In an effort to make the study of science more relevant for my students, and to make them more aware of the scientific and technological aspects of the world around them, I have implemented Science Learning Logs. 

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

 

  • Learning Log requirements :

                          1.   connect to a science theme

                          2.   typed (size 12 font Times New Roman)

                          3.  double spaced

                          4.  one full page

                          5.  follow the format

                          6.  include MYP areas of interaction

 

Each log will count as a major grade

  • Students will have many opportunities to come in before and after school or during advisory to use computers or view TV programs, when necessary. 
  • At any time during the course students may turn in a learning log  for EXTRA CREDIT.
  • Students are limited to 2 extra credit assignments per 6 weeks

FORMAT:

Follow the format!!!

                        Title (of article, movie, website...)

                        Author (writer, narrator,director, creator …)

                        Source (newpaper,DVD,magazine,websiteURL..)

                        Date (when was it written, filmed, created…)

                        MYP area of interaction (ATL, Environment. HomoFaber, Health&Social, Comunity Service)

 

  I.                    Introduction:   briefly summarize main theme (3-5 sentences)

 

 II.                  Body: (3-5 sentences)

                                            1.    What? (what point is the author,narrator,actor...trying to make?) 1 sentence or more

                                            2.      Who? (state the audience the selection is aimed at  Who might be interested in this?) 1 sentence or more

                                           3.      Why? (why is the selection important?Why should the audience care?) 1 sentence or more

 

III.                Conlusion:  (3-5 sentences)

                           state your opinion of the selection.  ( I think....I agree/disagree) 

                           describe the MYP area of interaction you believe this paper is supporting -  explain why it is this particular area of interaction

 1.    Newspaper Article
