2008-2009 National
History Day Theme:
The Individual In History
10/5/08
Students have selected their topics, project choices
and partners. Look for a letter coming home this week for parent signature
acknowledging that you know the direction your student has selected.
The next few weeks are all about research, research,
research. Please encourage your student to spend as much time as necessary
finding the best possible primary and secondary resources using a variety of
media - books, internet, interviews, visits to museums, etc.
Our next check point is paragraph 1 & 2 of the
process paper due on Friday, October 17th.
*********
Please ask your student frequently how their
research is progressing. Students should have all of their work in the back of
their ISN. All necessary handouts (some are not available electronically but
they can ask me if they are missing an item) are available on the History Day
Handout page if any are lost or missing. All contest rules and directions are
available on the websites discussed below.
Grisham participates in National History Day, a
wonderful (required) higher thinking level opportunity for our 7th and 8th
grade students to develop and hone their research skills. School winners
progress to the Cen-Tex History Day to qualify for State and National
competitions.
In order to learn more about the
theme, sample topics, project details you are strongly encouraged to visit: www.nationalhistoryday.org
There is also excellent information available from
the LBJ Library website. Both links are available on my links page.
