Wednesday, November 18th CONGRATULATIONS! Every student can be proud of the energy, effort and sweat equity that went into the History Day Projects. A very impressive diplay Tuesday night. Let the grading begin! Projects will be graded by the end of the 1st semester. They will be returned to the students gradually during the grading process. SPEAKING OF TEXAS HISTORY: We are in the heart of the Revolution and quickly winding down Unit Two. Keep an eye of the calendar as we'll have a Unit Test, Benchmarch and final exam all within short distance of each other as we wrap up the semester. *************************** 11/6/09 History Day Projects are due on Tuesday 11/10/09. Students may bring them before school (even before athletics - leave them outside my door, I'll be there around 7AM if not before). Be sure they are labeled on the back with student name grade teacher class period It is possible that project turned in after the due date will not be included in the judging process. TEAM FIELD TRIP: Team 7-2 will be visiting the Redbud Institute, sponsored by the Lower Colorado River Authority, over the course of 2 dates: 11/12 and 11/19. Ask you student for the permission slip - lots of signatures required! ************ 11/1/09 Unit One has drawn to a close and we are not on the Road to Revolution, Republic and Statehood with Unit 2. History Day is also nearing an end with projects due to Mrs. Rank on Tuesday, November 10th. Students will turn in their project (exhibit, website, documentary, historical research paper or performance), and the process paper packet (cover sheet, process paper, bibliography). Can't wait to see the amazing results of their research! ************* 10/23/09 Students are doing fairly well keeping up with Check Points. Friday 10/30 bibliography rough drafts are due. The list should be annotated: a sentence or two for each source telling what students learned from the source. Examples will be shown in class. *************************************************************************** 10/6/09 History Day is advancing quickly. Students have reviewed topic choices, selected partners and are determining their final project choices this week. It's all about research, research, research at this point. If they aren't on the computer or in the library they should be! Registration for the completely free, optional UT/ LBJ Library History Day workshop is NOON on October 16th. The session is Sat. morning 10/24. Register using the LBJ link under Links: History Day. Parents are welcome to attend but not required. I will be there for the morning. ABSENT? All class notes and assignments are posted under Homework Handouts! ************************************************************************** 9/21/09 History Day is officially under way. Thank you to all who have read and signed the introductory letter. Students should be pre-researching topic ideas. Three ideas are due 10/2. Minimum requirements are 3 primary and 2 secondary sources. They should be looking for topics of interest that are firmly connected to our theme of Innovation in History that have adequate resource material available. 7th graders are in the libary before school every day and the library is open everyday after school for an hour! Mr. Allen and Mrs. Rank also have computers available in their rooms after school on Tuesday and Thursday. ************************************************************************** 9/12/09 Parents - please click on the NewsFlash icon on my webpage to receive email or text messages (I promise they are brief and infrequent) and updates regarding Texas History and History Day. ******************************************************************** Welcome to Texas History. Student's are requested to provide one 8 1/2 x 11 three subject spiral for each semester. We ask for the 8 1/2 x 11 since it accomodates our maps and handouts without cutting or folding. August 2009: I have found good quality Mead 5 star spirals (it won't fall apart in the hands of a 7th grader!) at Walmart for $3.00.
Or, would you like to view and optionally restore one of these previous versions?
