¡BIENVENIDOS A LA CLASE DE ESPAÑOL!
Welcome to Spanish Class!

GRADING POLICY AND CONDUCT EVALUATION

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Information for 3rd-5th Grade Students
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Based on the new district-wide grading system, students will be receiving a
grade of “E”, “S”, “N”, or “U”. The use of a (+) or (–) has been
discontinued. Students will receive TWO grades per semester: a Spanish
Skills grade and a Spanish Citizenship grade, based solely on classroom
conduct (behavior) and number of Think Tickets incurred. Spanish Skills
grades for Folder Checks/Daily Warm-Up activities will be calculated at the
end of each week that your student has Spanish. Cumulative grades for the
nine weeks will be based on my records of participation, homework, and the
test. Extra credit will be factored in at the end of the nine week period
as well. Standards from each class will be calculated individually, as the
amount of time spent in class varies due to assemblies, testing, etc.

CONDUCT GRADES
*One warning will be given in a class period. The student will sign a card
at the 2nd warning. Once the student receives a third warning, he/she will
sign the card once again and a Change of Grade notice will be sent home.
The student will sign his/her card again after four warnings and, at that
point, a “Think Ticket” will be sent home. One ticket will drop the grade
to an “S”. Two tickets will result in an “N” and three tickets will result
in a “U”. Also, three accumulated warnings (with no card signed) in a nine-
week period will require notice of “Change of Grade”; any more warnings
thereafter will result in a “Think Ticket”, thus lowering the student’s
grade. Each Change of Grade form and “Think Ticket” that comes home must be
signed by the student’s parent/guardian and returned within a week;
otherwise a phone call home will be made.

WHOLE CLASS INCENTIVES FOR GOOD BEHAVIOR IN CLASS

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3rd, 4th, and 5th Grades
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Each class is working collectively towards a subasta at the end of the first
nine weeks for Fall . Each class will be working collectively towards a
Mercado at the end of the third nine weeks for Spring.

In order to qualify, each class will receive four chances. The first time a
class does not follow our posted classroom rules, it will receive
a "peligro" which means that the class is in danger of the "Strike Zone".
Any future misbehavior will result in one strike. Once a class reaches
three strikes, it is considered out of the running for either of the above-
mentioned activities. Also, in order to qualify for the Mercado, each
student must turn in a Spring project (more information to follow in the
Spring).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
