Announcements

Dear Parents and Students,

I would like to thank you for dropping in on my teacher web
page. The World Cultures textbooks have been issued and should be kept at
home as we have a class set available for use in the classroom. Please check
your child's agenda book as to the daily agenda and homework in their classes.

I look forward to teaching your child World Cultures this 2009-10 school
year!
                                                            Mr. Goins

Welcome to World Cultures!

World Cultures is more than just dates and facts. It is about people and how
they have dealt with one another overtime, the impact of their culture,
geography and environment on events throughout history. World Cultures is a
never-ending story, one that shows how various cultures have overcome various
hardships throughout time to become the people they are today!

Syllabus for World Cultures:

See the WC At-a-Glance and WC Course/Unit Organizers in the Notes and
Attachment section.

Class Procedures:

Every class meeting will begin by the student copying the day’s agenda and
lesson in the student agenda book. After the warm-up has been completed we
will begin the lesson. Please check your child's agenda regularly as to
what they are doing in class. Upkeep of the agenda book is a student
responsibility.

Grading: Student’s grades will be determined using the following categories:

    Type: Weight:
    Daily Work/Homework/Quizzes 1
    Participation 1
    Tests and Major Projects 2

Attendance:

There is a direct correlation between student attendance and academic
success. Since most of what will be learned will be through participation,
it is therefore recommended that students be on time, missing as few days as
possible and complete any work missed (see the school policy on attendance,
etc.)

Grading:

Daily work/ homework, quizzes and participation will be counted once and
tests will be counted twice to determine the overall average.

Homework Policy:
World Cultures typically does not assign weekly homework. Work has
been designed to be completed within the class period. However, work that
was not completed within the given time, may be assigned as Homework at the
teacher’s discretion. Students are always encouraged to review and study
notes taken within class to prepare for future discussions, quizzes and
tests. All notes should be neatly maintained in their binders behind a tab
designated specifically for World Cultures. All Explorer team students should
have a Homework folder.

Late Work Policy:

The ability to meet deadlines and budget time wisely is an important
life skill. It is our expectation that work will be turned in by the due
date. One day late, will result in a loss of 25 points. On the second day,
another 25 points will be deducted.

Note: Students who are absent are responsible to make up all missed
assignments. They will be given a reasonable amount of time to complete make-
up work so that they will not fall behind on their other assignments.
Students should feel free to see me in order to get caught up.
