Mission
This part-time staff position was created when Round Rock was one of 42 cities in the country to be awarded a three-year grant (which started in March 2006) called “Safe Schools/Healthy Students”. This grant, which promotes the physical and emotional health, safety and wellness for all children, has opened the door for the Round Rock Independent School District to partner with other community agencies. In addition, the PSS (Parent Support Specialist) position was created. Research has shown that the more parents are involved in their children’s education, the better students perform in school. However, there are sometimes barriers that prevent parents from being involved in their children’s education. The role of the Parent Support Specialist is to help parents overcome barriers to parental involvement by linking them with community and in-district resources, services, and information. The grant has made it possible for all RRISD schools to have a Parent Support Specialist.
