Wear sunglasses and flip-flops to school
Wednesday, April 30:
Second Grade Field Trip to Space Center Houston
Take a Peek at the Week:
Language/Science:
Many of you have looked up at the night sky and
seen the glow of tiny lights speckled across the sky. Most of you know that
the majority of those lights are stars, but did you know that some of those
lights are planets and even other galaxies? This week we will study one of my
favorite subjects, astronomy. We will explore the characteristics of each
planet in our solar system and learn more about deep space. Along with reading
nonfiction books about our planets, we will read fiction books to help
practice inferencing and summarization skills.
Watch a video on the planet of your
choice during school hours.
Find out how much you weigh on different
planets.
Math:
One of the most difficult aspects
of math is not the calculation, it is the problem solving that must happen
before you can calculate your answer. This week we will work on identifying
math in everyday situations and solving problems using a process. Students
will be expected to develop a problem-solving plan that my include drawing a
picture, looking for a pattern, or acting it out.
Social
Studies:
We will identify how such
astronauts as Neil Armstrong and Sally Ride have helped to shape our nation.
We will also spend some time exploring about what it would be like to visit
outerspace as an astronaut.
