About Miss Lucas:

I grew up in Santa Fe, Texas a rural town 20 miles south of Houston. I
graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1999 and immediately began my college
education at the University of Houston. I am the oldest child of four and am
very close to my family. My family and I like to travel all over the United
States. I have been to California, South Dakota, and Alaska to name a few. We
do a lot of site seeing, photography, hiking, and camping while traveling in
the summer. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Houston in May
2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. This is my
third year teaching second grade. I taught first grade for one year and can
proudly say that I have been a member of Dabbs' faculty for four years now! I
live in Webster with my cat, Orion and bearded dragon, Dabby. In my spare
time I like to read, eat out, work on our website, and visit with friends
and family.

My mom, sister, and I spent a week hiking in Colorado last summer.

Teaching Goals:

  • to foster a classroom community environment in which all students feel like a valued member.
  • to provide activities that appeal to all different types of learning styles.
  • to provide hands-on learning experiences that engage students meaningfully in the learning process.
  • to acknowledge and appreciate the differences between each one of my diverse students.
  • to create lessons that facilitate higher-order thinking to equip students with learning strategies.
  • to emphasize the importance of self-initiated learning.
  • to value students’ thoughts and feelings.
  • to encourage parent involvement.
To waken interest and kindle enthusiasm is the sure way to teach easily and successfully.” -Tyron Edwards
