How may I contact you?
You may:
*leave a message on my voicemail at 428-2231
*e-mail me at Dina_Mensing@roundrockisd.org
*contact the school office directly at 428-2200, if urgent or a
transportation change
If you wish to talk to me privately, we can schedule an appointment
to meet either before or after school or during my conference period. I am
able to check and respond to emails and voice mail messages before 7:40 am,
during my conference time [8:55-9:45] and after 2:45 pm; otherwise, I will
be teaching, and cannot guarantee that I will see or respond until the end
of the school day. If you need to get an URGENT MESSAGE to me, please call
the office. They will notify me.
Do students have a snack time?
Yes. Since our lunch is late in the day, snack time will be in the
mid-morning, after specials, at about 9:50. I encourage students to bring
water bottles to keep at their desks all day long. Students are not required
to bring a snack, but if they wish to have one, they must provide their own.
Students are allowed to bring healthy, ready-to-eat food choices. Some
examples are: carrot sticks, string cheese, grapes or other fruit. Sodas,
sweets, chips, large food portions, or food requiring utensils, significant
preparation, or clean-up, should be reserved for lunch only.
How do students monitor their own progress?
Each student has a Data section in a binder. Inside are student goals and
data showing how they are progressing towards their academic and behavioral
goals.
How can I help my child be successful?
Every child can benefit from support and involvement from family members and
friends of the family at home.
Keeping contact with me if you have any questions or concerns is important.
Thursday Folders will contain notices and student work each week, and should
be signed and returned each Friday. Your student's RED HOMEWORK FOLDER will
contain not only homework, but a Classroom Behavior Chart, which I will mark
daily, and notes from staff members that need to send home before Thursday.
Please check these folders on a regular basis.
Monitoring your child's homework is important, too. Homework is intended
for extra practice of concepts taught in class, but talking through and
reviewing it with your child not only helps him or her, but keeps you
informed. Occasionally students will be asked to make corrections and return
assignments to school.
Talking with your child about the day and what he/she learned.
How can I help my child's class/school?
If you are willing, please volunteer to be our Room Parent. Once ours is
named, I will send home or post here the contact information of our Room
Parent. We understand how busy our Jollyville families are, so if you are
unable to do so, PLEASE support her or him by:
joining PTA: if the meeting times are inconvenient, that's okay. The PTA
programs and fundraising all supports our students, materials, and field
trips;
attending and helping at class parties (we have 3 per year);
contributing for class parties (usually a party item or a few dollars is
requested from each family);
volunteering for the carnival; and
responding promptly to letters, emails, or requests.
Volunteering
Attending field trips and class parties is one way to help. Parents and
members of the community have also helped our students become more
successful. Please let me know if and how you are willing to help out--
possibilities may not be limited to our own class during school hours.
