Mon.-Thurs.) - Writing nightly entry in writer’s notebooks, or Word Study activity (5 – 10 min. Mon.–Thurs.) - Unfinished class work or projects 4th Grade Homework Policy 1. Fourth graders will receive about 45 minutes of homework at least three times a week. These assignments will usually be math, spelling, and reading. Occasionally assignments or projects in other subjects may be assigned. Each student is expected to read 20 minutes nightly. Check your child’s agenda each night. 2. If work is late, the student loses a number and goes to study hall (no recess) to complete the assignment. Students may also lose points for late work. Homework Tips 1. Check your child’s agenda nightly and initial that you saw it. All homework will be recorded daily in class as well as the student’s behavior number. 2. Allow your child a break between the school day and homework. 3. Provide your child with a quiet place to work where he/she will not be disturbed by other children, pets, or the T.V. 4. Be sure your child has all supplies necessary to complete assignments (paper, pencil, dictionary, ruler, etc.) 5. Check homework and sign if necessary. 6. Put completed work in the homework folder and into the backpack. 7. Designate a special spot for your child’s backpack to prevent last minute searches in the morning. Grading Policy Fourth grade work will be graded one of two ways: numerically or holistically. Assignments such as math, spelling, and reading will be given a numerical grade based on 100%. Assignments such as projects and writing will be given a holistic grade. Some examples of holistic grading are: (4,3,2,1), (A,B,C,D).
