What does the counselor do?
At Jollyville, the counselor talks to students about themselves and others.
Most of the counselor's time is spent counseling children individually, in
groups, and teaching guidance lessons to classes at regularly scheduled
times. The counselor also meets with parents individually to discuss
the child's educational progress.
Where is the counseling office located?
The counseling office is in Room 215, down the hall from the Dell lab, and
across the hall from the Achieve teachers.
How do I see the counselor?
Students, since a lot of my time is spent visiting and teaching classes, the
best way to make an appointment is to fill out a yellow "request to see the
counselor" sheet. You can either give the sheet to your teacher or drop it
in the mailbox outside of my office (Room 215). I will see you as soon as I
can, and will pick you up in your class during a non-academic time.
If you are a parent, just send me an email or call my office. My email is
beth_johnstone@roundrockisd.org and my phone number is 428-2212. Since I am
out of my office most of the day teaching guidance lessons, the best way to
reach me is through email. I will respond within 24 hours.
In times of crisis, no appointment is necessary.
How are students chosen for a counseling group?
Group members are chosen either from a teacher recommendation, or from a
parent who requests their child be a part of a group. Parents will be
notified if their child is asked to be in a group, and will need to sign a
permission form for group participation.
How often do counseling groups meet?
Groups will meet once a week, for 6-8 weeks.
During the fall semester, group members will be from grades 3-5, and during
the spring semester, group members will be from grades K-2.
How often will the counselor come teach my class?
The counselor will teach your class once every two weeks. Guidance lessons
will last between twenty-forty minutes, depending on your grade.
Can I see the counselor before or after school?
Yes. She is in the office at 7:15 and leaves at 3:30.
