Parent Bulletin Board
Name Tags
Please help
us all to properly identify your child during the first 2 weeks of school by
making sure that your child wears the name tag provided.
The
name tag will identify your child by name, teacher, room number, and how
she/he will be going home every afternoon. We
urge your full support with this matter since many staff members will be
interacting with your child. After
the first 2 weeks, these name tags may be attached to your child’s back pack.
Please
help your child keep up with the name tag since our supply is limited.
Lunches
Our
Kindergartners will be eating lunch in the cafeteria as of the first day of
school. We
would like to make things simple and easy for them, so we are asking you to
please send a lunch and drink with your child during the first week of school.
This
will allow us to establish cafeteria procedures before putting the children
through the lunch line. Lunch
tickets may be purchased in the cafeteria during our Open House and on Mondays
thereafter. We
encourage you to purchase a weekly or monthly lunch ticket for your child in
order to eliminate the possibility of losing money.
Lunches
include milk, and are $2.05 each. Your
child may purchase from the entree’ choices listed on the day’s menu.
Milk
(50 cents) is also available separately. A
lunch menu will go home each semester to help you determine if your child
should bring or buy lunch. Tickets
are valid until they are used up. Parents
may join their children for lunch at any time after the first 2 weeks of
adjusting to school. Adult
school lunches cost $2.50 and may be ordered by sending in a note the day you
plan to come or by calling the school office by 8:15.
Snacks
The
kindergarteners may bring a nutritious snack for midmorning (recess), if
desired. This
snack will need to be one that the child can self-manage, with no spoon and
that is in a disposable container, please. Suggestions
of healthy snacks follow. Dried
or fresh fruit, crackers, dry low-sugar cereal, pretzels, etc.
School Supplies
Refer to
the list provided to determine if you have all the necessary supplies.
Label
the mat, and please do not send pillows, blankets, or sleeping toys.
Also,
please label all your child’s belongings, including coats, jackets, backpacks,
sweaters and lunch boxes. Be
sure to add a change of clothes for those times when spills or accidents occur.
Students will need to bring their backpacks to school every day.
Check these daily for school notes, etc. Please be sure the backpack is
large enough to hold library books and folders. Your child will need to be
able to open and close the backpack independently.
Morning
Procedures
We know how
difficult good-byes can be for some of the children.
We
therefore recommend that good-byes be quick and as easy as possible.
If
your child cries, assure him/her that the teacher will take good care of
him/her, and then drop them off at the door (week 1, hug zone after wk. 1).
Coming
into the classroom only prolongs the separation. Ninety-nine percent of the
time, tears disappear within seconds after you are gone.
We
promise to take good care of them. Parents
are invited to drop by the library for “Tissues and Tea” with the principal at 7:40
the first day to meet other parents and celebrate your children’s first day.
Arrival and Dismissal
All
kindergarten students will go directly to the classroom on the first day and
each day afterward, the children will sit in the hallway outside their
classroom. Your
child may arrive between 7:25
and 7:40
a.m. Breakfast
is served each morning in the cafeteria and if your child wishes to eat
breakfast he/she should go directly there. This
is an especially good option for students who ride the early morning
bus. Then
the child will come to the hallway outside the classroom until the 7:40
bell rings.
Reminder
Instruction
begins promptly at 7:45
a.m. Children
who arrive after the 7:45
a.m.
bell are markedtardy.
Tardies
are closely monitored, so please help your child get to school on time by
allowing enough morning time to cope with drop-off traffic and those “rough
mornings.” Having
a routine and a reasonable bedtime (8:00
is reasonable) will help to facilitate a smooth and timely arrival at school.
Dismissal
Students
will be dismissed according to your instructions at 2:45
p.m. Dismissal
time is an extremely important time, therefore, order and caution is necessary.
We
want your child to reach his/her destination safely and correctly.
Please
allow us the necessary time and caution we need in order to assure ourselves
that we know where every child is. Siblings,
parents, relatives, and sitters will need to wait at the appropriate
designated exit. Exits
will vary depending on how your child goes home (see below).
We
need to know that your child is leaving before you take him/her.
We
teach the children to remain with us and to always say good-bye to us before
departing. Students
are not to change their destinations or leave alone without your written
consent. These
dismissal procedures are in place for child’s safety.
We
urge your support and cooperation and patience. THANKS!
Dismissal Exits
Bus Riders and Day Care: These
students will exit through the front
door.
Teachers will escort these children to the bus and day care pick up area.
Day Care
students will sit in a designated space. You
will need to tell us your child’s day care name or bus name/number so that we
can put your child on the correct bus. Older
siblings will need to meet their younger siblings on the bus.
We
will see to it that the kindergartners get on the right bus.
Please
help your child learn about where to get off.
Car Riders:
These
students will exit through the cafeteria doors. They
will sit with their grade level in a designated area until they are placed
into their vehicles. Please
allow us to bring out all the students before taking your child. Remember to let
us know
that your child is leaving. The
school Safety Patrol will be happy to assist you with your car door when you
come through the circular drive. This
procedure has proven to be the safest and most effective.
Children
will not be allowed to walk across the driveway to meet you.
We
want your child to be safe at all times.
YMCA: These
students will be escorted to the cafeteria at the end of the day.
Walkers:
These
students will exit through the door at the end of the 2nd grade
hall. Please
meet your child near the front bike rack. Teachers
will escort the children to this area and will supervise them until you pick
them up. Please
be sure your child informs the teacher when they are leaving.
Medications
All
medications must
be brought in the original container and delivered to the school
nurse
before school begins in the morning.
Parent
Academic Information Night
Please mark
your calendars. Parents
and teachers will meet on Thursday, September 11 for a PTA meeting and then in
our classrooms to explain our curriculum, assessment, guidelines and to answer
questions.
We
look forward to working with you. Thank
you for your support and cooperation. We
appreciate all your efforts in making the beginning of the school year a
pleasant and smooth experience. If
you have any additional questions, please contact the kindergarten teacher.
