This 2009-2010 school year will be my 34th year in Longview ISD.
I graduated from Longview High School and Stephen F. Austin State
University.
My degree is a Bachelor of Science in Education with a Minor in Reading.
I began working in Longview ISD as a Teacher Aide at Mozelle Johnston,
working with Reading in grades 1, 3, and 4.
I moved on to become a teacher and taught Reading at Jodie McClure E.S. for
grades 3,4, and 5.
Then, I taught 4th grade Language Arts and Social Studies at Mozelle
Johnston E.S.
Next, I spent ten years at South Ward Elementary where I taught second
grade and fourth grade before coming to Judson Middle School.
I moved to JMS in the fall of 1992, and have taught 6th grade World History
& Geography and 7th grade Texas History & Geography.
I love teaching 7th grade Texas history and I am very happy to be at
Judson Middle School!
I have G/T certification and have been trained to teach Pre-Ap history
classes. Also, I have participated in training for learning styles and
inclusion. In the spring of 2002,2006 and again in 2008, I was listed in
Who's Who Among America's Teachers. I enjoy going to conventions and
workshops to help me learn new ideas and activities that I will be able to
share with my students.
I am married and have two (grown) children & two grandsons. I enjoy
spending time with my family and enjoyed spending time with all of them
during the summer. I love to travel - especially going camping & being
outdoors.
We went on a family camping trip at Inks Lake State Park early in the summer
and had lots of fun! Later in the summer, we went to Austin a couple of
times to visit our son & his girlfriend. We had a great time even though it
was very hot!
On one of my visits to Austin during the summer, we went to the Texas State
Cemetery. I saw the headstones for many of the people we will study about in
this class. While in the visitor's center, I saw a statement that I want you
to think about - "The past is present. We are living history."
It is my goal to help each of you to develop an interest in and appreciation
for history as you learn about your state.
I hope that each of you will WANT to learn about history and will be excited
about things you do learn. I want you to be able to use the knowledge and
skills that you acquire in 7th grade to help you in the future - not only in
school; but in life situations, as well.
**********
Please, look at the study of history as a "story" of the past that will help
you understand the events that shaped "today" and will lead to the future.
