I am so fortunate to be returning to Kathy Caraway Elementary after being a
school counselor at two other Texas schools. Prior to being a counselor, I
was a para-professional for a year and a 2nd grade classroom teacher for
eight years at this school when it was known as "North Oaks Elementary". My
family made a move to the Dallas area where I became a school counselor at
J.O.Davis Elementary for three years in Irving, Texas. In 2004 we moved back
to Austin where I became one of the counselors at Wells Branch Elementary for
five years. My children attended North Oaks while I was a teacher and to
this day still say that their elementary days were one of their
favorite memories.

I am married and my husband and I have five children that are now in their
20's, there are four boys and the youngest is a girl. My family is my
greatest joy and I am always trying to find ways to get them home to visit
since they are now out of the nest. Both of my parents were educators so I
have always had a special love for learning. I grew up in Brownsville, Texas
for 19 years and had the oppportunity to acquire the Spanish language which
has been greatly beneficial for me and helpful to others.

Please come by and meet me when you have the a moment and always feel free to
call me or email if you have any questions, concerns or just want to let me
know more about your child/children and family.

Educate, Inspire, Empower

As a student advocate, I strive to recognize the uniqueness and personal
worth of each child. I also focus on each student's potential for growth as
they become more self-directed learners.
In alignment with ASCA (American School Counseling Association), the goal of
my counseling program is to help foster the academic, personal/social and
career development of each student. I support students through individual
counseling. small support groups, and classroom guidance lessons. Some
examples of guidance topics include study skills and test taking
strategies, time management, handling stress and handling anger, social and
life skills, self-esteem, responsibility, conflict-resolution, and anti-
bullying behaviors.
