What is considered late?
Work is considered "late" if it is not turned in at the beginning of class on
the date it is due.
--------------------------------------
Is there a penalty for late work?
Yes, 30 points will be deducted from your grade. The best grade you may
receive is a 70. If the work is not turned in by that Friday, you will be
ZAPPED (see below)!
--------------------------------------
Can I go to the library during Tutorials?
No, the library is not open during Tutorials.
--------------------------------------
When is the library open?
The library is open Monday through Friday from 7:30-8:00 and during all
lunches. It is open after school from 3:30-4:00 Monday through Thursday.
--------------------------------------
When is the computer lab open?
The computer lab is open and available to students on Mondays and Wednesdays
from 3:30-4:30.
--------------------------------------
How many books do I need to read each 6 weeks?
TWO are required: one genre-specific book for the in-class writing and
project; one separate AR book for the AR test. However, the more you read,
the more knowledge you gain!!! Please take AR tests over any and all books
you read!
--------------------------------------
What is the Reading Team?
The Reading Team is a special yet easily attainable accomplishment! To
join the Reading Team, students must read 100 points by May 4. Within those
100 points, 7th grade students must read 2 Newberrys and 1 Lonestar. While
the Reading Team is not a requirement, it is strongly encouraged that all
SEARCH/Advanced students join! Regular reading helps prepare students for
the rigorous AP tests in high school and the vast amount of reading in the
upper grades and college. Special incentives accompany this goal. READ ON! :)
--------------------------------------
Are there any opportunities for extra credit?
It depends on the class. In Language Arts, students can receive a "free 100
test grade" by obtaining 10 AR points (20 AR points for SEARCH/Advanced)
within a 6 weeks.
--------------------------------------
What happens if I get in trouble by a substitute?
If your name is recorded by a substitute teacher as disobeying the rules, you
will receive an office referral upon the teacher's return to class.
Substitutes should be shown the utmost respect and the best behavior; you
should be able to control yourself for the 50 minutes of class.
--------------------------------------
Where can I take AR tests?
You can take AR tests in Ms. Munson's room with her permission or in the
library with an AR test pass signed by Ms. Munson.
--------------------------------------
What projects are acceptable for the Language Arts genre project?
Book project bingo boards and their definitions are in the Documents section
of this website. Click on the Documents link above to reach the webpage.
--------------------------------------
What happens if I forget to write my name on my paper?
No-name papers will be treated as late work. If the paper is not immediately
discarded, it will receive a 30 point deduction in the final grade.
--------------------------------------
How can I find the Writing Rule of the Week?
Click on the LINKS link above to access the Weekly Writing Rules.
--------------------------------------
What is ZAP?
Zeros Aren't Permitted. Your student is informed every Friday and/or Monday
of their missing work and assigned to ZAP (a tutorials) for the following
Tuesday 3:35-4:30. If they turn in their work before ZAP, they do not have to
attend.
--------------------------------------
What happens if I miss ZAP?
If you miss ZAP because you were absent from school, you must turn in any
missing work the morning of your return to school. In accordance with the
LJIS motto "Failure is NOT an Option," any student who skips ZAP will be
assigned a Saturday detention. You will also receive a 50 point grade
deduction for excessive lateness. We want you to succeed!
--------------------------------------
Where and when is Saturday Detention?
You may drop off your student at the front of the school before 8:00 AM.
Saturday Detention begins promptly at 8:00 AM and ends at 11 AM.
