2007-2008 School year Semester 1 September: ARTIST OF THE MONTH: LEONARDO DA VINCI Focus on Elements of art, discuss reflective light, cast shadow, and value, perspective and photorealism 1. Calligraphy practice and Quotation 2. Project: Portfolio covers- Project requirements: Include 3 aspects of yourself in pictures. you must use a fancy font or calligraphy for your name. 3. Acrylics practice-correct paintbrush care, painting waves, water, sunsets, flowers, trees, grasses,feathers and hair to look realistic. 4. Gridded pictures: UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL Can be any object but it has to be very close to get detailing done correctly. first practice using graphite to get the correct blending techniques down, then shade sphere or horses eye (depending on the level of student), then practice shading using chalk pastels-the element of line with reflective light and cast shadow. October: GEORGIA O'KEEFFE 1. Focus on color and color schemes-monochromatic, analogous, complimentary and neutral. Properties of color-tints, shades and intensity 2. PROJECT: Color wheels, using warm and cool colors, repeating patterns, varied lines-goemetric and organic, as well as the color wheel itself 3. Project: Complimentary pictures in watercolors-focus on flowers, animals and plants- Advanced students will learn to use misket (liquid blocking agents) and special effects such as salts. 4. Advanced students: glass fusing projects-earrings, necklaces, and frames
November: ARTIST OF THE MONTH: M.C. ESCHER and FREDRIC REMINGTON focus on patterns, tesselations, photorealism, visual unity and the principles of art 1.Project: Graphite shading techniques practice 2. Project: Tesselations and Repeating patterns in art-realism using colored pencils and paint-westerns and animals of Texas scenes 3. Project: Photrealism inWestern art and Texas Themes for the Houston Livestock and Rodeo show using a variety of medias (student choice) Gridded Photo-realistic horses (beginners) 5. Space and Perspective- 1 point perspective for beginning students and 2 point perspective for more advanced students, atmosperic perspective and gridding procedures Advanced Project: Landscapes using 2 piont perspective in acrylics or watercolors, add a focal point-discuss placement as well as how the eye travels through a piece of artwork. Have the focal point be of a western theme. December: ARTIST OF THE MONTH: CERAMIC ARTIST-PAUL SOLDNER, DIEGO RIVERA 1. Ceramics beginners-POTTERY-wheel thrown items, pinch pot, vase, matching cups and one project of their choice: masks, mugs, Christmas decorations or raised platter 2. Ceramics advanced-POTTERY-wheel thrown items, raised platters, Diego Rivera calla lillies, self portraits as masks, slab containers with lids
