Welcome to first grade as Mrs. Hall’s Hoppers! I am thrilled that you will be
joining me in the excitement of this year as we learn to read, write, solve
problems, research, discover and have lots of fun.
There is something very special about first grade. Do you remember your
first grade teacher? I can still remember my first grade teacher, Mrs.
Pippin. To a six year old struggling to learn to read, she was my hero who
saw a child in distress and patiently helped me over come my obstacles. She
also knew my strengths and pushed me to develop them further. I remember the
day she asked me to help teach a math lesson. The experience of helping
others learn that day birthed in me a desire to pursue education. Mrs.
Pippin knew my potential and helped me to reach beyond it. Her love,
dedication and passion for teaching helped me to become a student excited
about school. She fueled a desire for learning and inspired me to become a
teacher myself. Today I feel privileged to be your child’s first grade
teacher. In the same way my first grade experience left lasting impressions
that I still remember today, I hope to leave behind lasting memories and
experiences that will inspire and encourage your child for years to come.
This year will be my ninth year at Laurel Mountain. Originally from the
Dallas/Fort Worth area, I graduated from the University of Texas with a
degree in Early Childhood Education and didn’t want to leave Austin. I am
also certified in Special Education, English as a Second Language and
Talented and Gifted. More recently, I have begun to pursue my masters in
education administration. Continuing to learn and develop my strengths is
important and exciting to me personally. My hope is that this value will
spill over onto my students as we learn and grow together.
After a wonderful summer, I am ready to begin an exciting new year in first
grade with you and your child. I look forward to getting to know you as we
partner together to ensure your child’s success and love of school. Please

students to develop independence, discover their interests and talents and
make “leaps” and bounds academically. I love first grade and first graders.
