Welcome to Mr. Holmstrom’s Class!
I am so glad that I'm a Laurel Mountain Lion! This is my fifth year of
teaching at Laurel Mountain, but I've been connected to the school for longer
than that since my son Daniel went here from kindergarten to fifth grade
(he's now a sophomore at Westwood--yikes!) and my daughter Amanda is in fifth
grade. What a great school!
I’m beginning my 33rd year of teaching, all in Round Rock. I taught 4th
grade for six years at Anderson Mill before becoming the TAG teacher for five
years. When Old Town opened, I moved there and taught TAG for six years
before moving to fifth grade. When Daniel was born I became an at-home dad
for two years.
My wife (Glenda)quit working at Computer Sciences Corporation so that she
could be an at-home mommy and I could go back to what I also love (in
addition to being a dad)—teaching elementary school. I started back at Great
Oaks and taught there for nine years, teaching fourth grade, fifth grade, and
TAG. Glenda started a new job this summer working for Essence Health Care
Group, based in St. Louis
I love creativity. I love writing songs, plays, and stories. I enjoy
creating activities from which the kids can learn. And, I love making kids
think and discover talents they didn’t know they had.
I also enjoy sports, both watching and playing. Typically, when a
game "breaks out,” I’m ready to play.
Most of all, I love my family. Glenda and I have been married since 1980.
We became parents in 1996 with the birth of Daniel. Amanda completed our
immediate family in 2001. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention our dogs
Melba (part Pomeranian) and Jake (Corgi). We love to spend time together as
a family. We enjoy playing games, watching TV, going swimming, going
bowling, etc. And, three-fourths of us enjoy reading! Every year we go to
Orlando, Florida, to see Grandma and then spend a week at Siesta Key
(Sarasota) having fun at the beach with uncles, aunts, and cousins (and
Grandma).
I love being a teacher. I love getting to know students and their
families. I love helping children learn. (Apparently, I love to use the
word “love,” also!) I look forward to a great year, with all of us working
together to learn as much as we can.
