Welcome to Miss Lofaro’s Leapfrogs second grade class! I am thrilled that you
and your child will be apart of the excitement of second grade. As a second
grader, your child will build depth in their abilities to read, write,
research, problem solve, ask questions, discover new things, and of course,
have fun while doing so. As your new Leapfrog “leaps” through the year,
he/she will build confidence, gain independence, acquire new interests and
talents, and grow academically.
This is my third year teaching at Laurel Mountain Elementary. Last year, I
had a very successful year teaching as I moved up and became a member of the
second grade team and I can’t wait to continue with another year in second
grade. I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in
Early Childhood Education in May of 2009. While I was there I received my
English as a Second Language certification as well. Growing up with a mother
that was a teacher exposed me to the wonderful world of education at a young
age, and I never looked back from there. Determined to become a teacher
myself caused me to develop a thirst for knowledge and a passion for children.
The excitement I have for learning new things and teaching others has taken me
on my most recent journey as I finish graduate school this Summer. I am
working towards obtaining a Masters of Education in Advanced Literacy for the
next two years and I cannot wait to utilize my new knowledge with your child
throughout this school year.
I am not a native Texan, although having lived here for sixteen years; Austin
is where I call home. I was originally born in Poughkeepsie, New York and
moved to Austin in third grade. I attended Round Rock ISD schools as a child
(Brushy Creek Elementary, Cedar Valley Middle School, McNeil High School) and
am very proud to have returned as a teacher. My older brother, Steven, is a
Prudential Real Estate Agent and lives in Austin as well. My parents, Sam and
Johanna, also live close by in Austin. My pride and joy is my dog, Toby. A
simple greeting from him when I walk through door completes my day. I am very
fortunate to have a family that continues to provide endless support and
encouragement as I tackle life’s goals.
The second grade team and I have been working very hard throughout the summer
and I am so excited to get started. I am looking forward to our partnership
in ensuring your child’s love for learning and success in school. Please feel
free to contact me at any time via e-mail or phone with any questions,
comments, or concerns you may have. This is going to be a fantastic year for
both you and your Leapfrog!
Miss Lofaro’s Leapfrogs will come to school to improve our learning, show our
PRIDE, make friends and have fun. We will do this by being good listeners,
participating and being a bucket filler. This is important to us so that we
can move on to 3rd grade and make our families happy. :)
