My daughter celebrated her 25th birthday this year. I can still remember the
day she was born. It was the first day of Laurel Mountain Elementary's
existence. Yes, September 3rd 1985, the very first day of school in the
history of Laurel Mountain. I have been teaching here ever since that day!
So if you ever want to know about the history of Laurel Mountain, just ask
me, since I have been here from the beginning. I'm looking forward to this
year's 25th Anniversary Celebration. While I have been teaching
here for many years I have not forgotten how to incorporate new ideas and
research into my teaching. The past few years we have seen more emphasis
placed on student health and fitness. Per state law all elementary school
students are required to have 135 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical
activity per week.
Each year Laurel Mountain students in 3rd through 5th grades are required to
take the state mandated physical fitness tests. The results of those
assessments will be examined each year to pinpoint any areas that our
students need to improve in. Our curriculum will be adjusted to help our
students improve their fitness levels in any weak areas that last year's
tests revealed. So even though I have been teaching at Laurel Mountain for
some years , I keep an open mind to new activities to make P.E./Wellness fun
for all the students.
